If there are any Truckers in here that are planning to attend Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor event on 8/28 I'd like to know because I am going and I am trying to get some Truckers to come as a Group to take that week off(legally, I have 1 of my 3 weeks scheduled). It is the week before Labor Day so it is a Great Time to voice concerns about Labor & taking back control of ours. I'm thinking about doing this annually, every year the week before labor day & think that the restoring honor event will be a great start because thats what truckers need to do-Restore Honor to our profession. All I'm asking is some guys come to DC peacefully, not roll up in rigs & shut down traffic & cause wide spread havoc, just start a grassroots event called the FIRST ANNUAL NATIONAL TRUCKER STRIKE. I call it a trucker strike not a trucking strike because like andrew says, trucking is for the people, the trucker is the person, some unions cover trucking companies, I want power for the individual trucker to control his or her own labor & not be traeted like a slave donkey. Power to the MEople! We can talk over specifics there, first, we need to get there & try to get as many others as we can to attend. I will be working on a design, hopefully, my idea is to make up about a thousand t shirts that say 1st Annual Nation Trucker Strike on the front with a bald eagle & Lincons statue, and the words FAIR DAY / FAIR PAY on the back. If we can (legally) sell them for $10 thats $10,000 we can put into the 2nd Annual National Trucker Strike in another city in 2011 and so on & so on.

You do realize that when you use vacation time to "strike" the company you work for will just have someone else fill your position while you're gone don't you? The purpose of a strike is to shutdown operations, vacationing for a week does nothing to hamper said production, making it a meaningless gesture.

Use 'Inaugural National Trucker Strike'... There's no such thing as 'First Annual'.

I like that marnesdad, I also have the first week of aug off when I'll be hitting photoshop & putting the graphics together, @ Widowmaker, I think theres legal problems with an individual trying to get every truck to stop & I'm trying to stay out of Jail. The best way is to have people take their vacation week & sacrifice it to the cause. Then each year, hopefully more & more wil do the same until we reach the point of hampering production, unless via a miracle were heard before then. http://www.glennbeck.com/828/

Well, good luck with that. It seems to me that all you're really going to accomplish is to throw a perfectly good vacation down the toilet. You may want to call it "The inaugural trucker vacation".

well, I havnt had a vacation in 12 years so I wont really know what wasting one is. All I know is something has to be done when employees are forced to work long hours (20+ per day) sleep 4 hrs & not get paid for 1/4 of them theres a problem. A trucking co. in PA just swindeled their billing company out of millions and skipped out on all their drivers, this isnt the first trucking company & wont be the last. They all run the game until they cant then claim bankruptcy & leave employees out to dry, its a scam that 80% of them play & needs to be stopped. http://www.landlinemag.com/todays_news/Daily/2010/June10/062110/062210-03.htm

Most Truckers think about rolling trucks into DC, shutting the city down & making demands when they hear strike, thats not a strike, thats terrorism, I just want people to understand. I saw a truck school ad on TV today that a student said he went from making $400/week to $1000 a week & thinks thats good, but what people fail to realize is you work 80 hrs a week for it, so cut it in half & your only getting $500 a week for 2 full time jobs, only $100 more, not 6-700 like the ad says on TV. I know trucking will never be a 9-5 8 hr position but when employees are trapped in a system of poor choices the choice of freedom & circumstance is really just a mirage. Drivers sit at warehouses all day for FREE while customers take hours to load or unload the trucks keeping the driver captive on their property & they know it so they have all the power. Money motivates everyone so if drivers were limited to 12 hrs of work instead of 14 & customers were forced to pay for their time, they wouldnt sit there so long, could work, drive & get proper rest that they are neglecting now & sacrificing safety to compensate for customers laziness. You can't preach safety in your industry then promote an incentive pay package that negates the safety, drivers will always try to get by on 4hrs of sleep per night & mix that on a fri eve with drunks driving around & its toxic. Pay Drivers what theyre worth & the roads will be safer.

In a company truck. Am doing 8.5-9.5 driving hrs / day, and get $575-600 a week. Non-forced dispatch. Home is in Central Fla, and my current take-home pay is approx 150-175/week than what I get driving local. Yeah, 48-state is a strain, but I can't cover the bills from paying for daughter's tuition/books/etc... The Mexican drug gangs took drug $$$, bought controlling shares of legitimate Mexican trucking companies. They're the big push to get Mexican trucks on all US highways... And a US truckers' strike, is just about the red meat that they're looking for...
