250mil registered cars in US. 5pct are NOT insured. 300mil people in US. 15pct NOT insured. Over 210mil have cell phone subscriptions. Is car insurance more of a priority than health? Hmmm

I don't know about other states, but here in Maryland in order to register a car you have to have insurance. If you let it lapse, once they catch up to you , they will fine the hell out of you and possibly can take your liscense. And make note that even though it is required by law to have auto insurance in maryland, the state does not assume the responsability of providing it.

My point is the general consumers' priority. Their car is more important than their health.

The current health care bill will outlaw private individual health insurance http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=332548165656854

Another comparrison that mr. Wilkow has made in the past is the 'PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS'. Drop your Car insurance tonight.. Then, the next time some liberal jerkey rams you from behind, walk into Geico and tell them you want your car insured. I want to know what the calculated costs of funding healthcare services for the irresponsible people

I'll give you an idea Newzworth. Binge drinking in the UK costs the NHS $6 billion dollars a year! Smoking costs $10 billion a year! Illegal drugs over the past 10 years has cost $220 billion!

car insurance is a big racket too. I think if all you need is liability ins, then you should be able apply it to your license wouldnt matter how many cars you have, you can only drive one at a time. also you could hit a rolls royce with your ford escort. if you wanted or needed full coverage you could apply that to the individual car.

Actually the only racket part of any insurance lies in the companies that refuse to cover what they've contracted with the insured to cover. It's all risk. We all pay a small premium into a company where the premium is based on the chances only a small number of insured will file claims. So that there is enough money to cover any claims filed. The more claims that are filed to cover the costs of repair, whether it's your car or your body, the more money the insurance company has to pay out. In order to maintain enough money to cover subsequent claims, if too many claims are being filed, the premiums have to be raised on the individuals who are filing the most claims. When you add in the costs that Doctors have to cover in the event that someone files a lawsuit against them, their charges have to go up to cover the malpractice insurance they are requied to carry. It's the frivolous claims that end up doing the real damage to all of us in regards to the cost of insurance. The good insurance companies are only trying to maintain enough capital to cover their clients claims. It's our job to maintain good health and safe driving practices to avoid unnecessary claims. We also need to get rid of the ambulance chaser lawyers. Tort reform !!!

Is car insurance required across the country, or just in certain states? It is required in Oregon, where I live.

The state requirement is usually for drivers only. Those who don't drive do not get penalized if you don't get insurance. The dynamic of mandating health care forces people into the goernment plan. The people who presently opt out of having health care will have to choose between free and a penalty...
