That's big time college athletics, and no one in the profession is immune from it. I got sick of it long ago, and would love to have seen the football/basketball programs downsized to non-scholarship programs. Move those sports, as they have existed for decades, outside the colleges and into a semi-pro environment. They are little else than that now-stepping stones into the pros. Most athletes in those programs have to go back to school after being drafted to complete their education. Meanwhile, you get athletes with multiple arrests for booze related incidents (all underage), assaults, thieving, etc., kept in the college and on the team. The idea of so many of these guys being scholar-athletes is a joke. When you see the ads for all the student-athletes that don't become pros, how many are from the football/basketball programs? Almost all are swimmers, gymnasts, etc. |
