Can anyone recommend a book or two that can help me verbalize/debate/articulate better the ideals and points that Andrew makes so often on his show? I agree with much of what is talked about but I am not good at putting those thoughts into words when I come across your typical liberal.

You don't need a book... Do what Andrew does. Just pick a legitmate item to gripe about, and then embellish the rest with anything you can think of..... relevant or not..... true or not..... whatever..... (make sure you attack the liberal ideology with stereotypes, re-written history, and realtions to everything from fascism to communism)...

AHHH don't listen to smarmy Armbruster - Andrew reads. Smarmy is just jealous of Andrew! If he calls Andrew, he's the one that ends up hanging up because he gets proven wrong all the time. Go to Heritagefoundation.org - order your pocket constitution, get a copy of the books that Andrew's read and keeps on hand!

What exactly are you trying to say with the smarmy comment "patriot"?

smarmy doesn't think Andrew reads, that he just gripes w/o any knowledge of the subjects to which he talks about. Smarmy will argue with anyone for the sake of arguing, he has a history of it. Google his name, he's quite popular on the aol forums (or was until he slunk away)

The U.S. Constitution, The Federalist Papers, HR3200 (health care), HR2425 (Cap and Trade), or read the Affirmative Action bill (this one will shock you). Then you will have all the ammo you will need to debate anyone.

this is my specialty-i can't type for #@**&!!@,but i read copiously-and not to show off. it dawned on me about, maybe four years ago, that i really had to figure out what was going on.prior to that time,i read all kinds of stuff(not romance but non fiction),but when i realized that america,as a free country, had no majic power/imperative to stay that way,i knew i cuoldn't just sit in a blissful fog of complacency. if 'a' is done,then'b'happens-no matter where the action takes place,so this means that our country could turn into a totalitarian state, just as many others have...so what causes what to happen?with the stakes so high, can one just sit back and take the majority's discription of what's going on-or the press-or your parents-or even your college professor? no,and you can't take a book's word as gospelBUT you can read enough on a subject from different perspectives to the extent that you start seeing sources corroborating certain facts-now if you only read conservative book club choices, for example, you may feel that you haven't allowed yourself to explore other legitimate sources.i will suggest a couple very helpful books(in case you feel,as i did, that simply reading the constitution in a vacuum doesn't completely inform and stabilize your political positions).but first,i'd like to suggest looking and reading more through the back door.what i mean is,read some memoirs by people who have survived under regimes that don't allow free expression,or who have survived gulags and prisons...read writings by people who have dedicated themselves to following the truth where it lead(even if it meant losing their professions, status, jobs, spouse, etc. as a consequense of changing their views). these are very important sources of information, because people who destabilize their lives by having the courage to admit being wrong are much more likely to think rationally and tell the truth. books and real journals(not newsbite magazines),even if biased, involve a more thorough handling of a given subject. now(drum roll, please)here's a fantastic book for you!i wish i had known about it before now(i just read it)ACTUAL ETHICS by JAMES OTTESON this book is a fantastic primer on classical liberal thought and argument. it is clear and uses life examples, along with stuff from more classical sources one would anticipate. aside from the content,it has one of the most exhaustive lists of sources. he has a bibliography after each chapter,as well as at the end of the volume. he is secure enough in his position to supply ample sourcing for the opposition's arguments as well. please do all you can to find this book! i also recommend some authors that turn up in his pages, like thomas sowell, hernando de soto, and david horowitz. sorry-a bit long winded, but i know this will help. thanks
