Now we're being called 10thers? And this is supposed to be an insult? Who do we need to contact with a big voice who might be able to throw out the term "clausers" or "welfarers" for those who think that bastardizing the constitution is okay via misinterpretation of the "general welfare" phrase? |

Tenthers? An array of prominent wingnuts believe that the Tenth Amendment dictates that the federal government shouldn't be meddling in a variety of "unconstitutional" programs -- including the federal highway system. Once again, we have to say: Step away from the Constitution, wingnuts, before you hurt your walnut brains. Article I, Section 8. The powers of Congress include: "To establish Post Offices and Post Roads." The U.S. Postal Service uses the highway system. Additionally, the highway system is used to transport soldiers -- required for "the common Defence." In fact, the full title of the highway system is "The Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways" because it was partially inspired by the way the Nazis used the Autobahn to move troops during the War. While we're here, it might be important to remind Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry that Section 8 also includes: "The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States." And: "To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries." If they're going to be literalists about the Constitution, the above passages of Article II allow the federal government to establish a national healthcare system. Ya know, it's okay for MSNBC to refer to Rep Bachmann, myself, and all of my fellow Patriots as Tenthers. If they want to call me a One'r or a Two'er...or a ArtOneSect8'er, I don't care. The ONE document which has allowed the longest-lasting, most enduring democracy in the history of the world gives them the same right to criticize me as I'm using to criticize them. The biggest difference is that I consider myself and all of my fellow patriots here as being modern-day Templar Knights, but instead of guarding the Holy Grale, we guard the US Constitution. Once-upon-a-time, I rose my right hand and swore my allegiance to upholding the constitution of the United States of America...I uphold that oath to this day. I will stand beside my oath to PRESERVE and PROTECT the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, to the death, so help me GOD. And, NO, our Country's birth certificate is NOT as pliable as Progressives say it is (damn you pres T Roosevelt through pres F Rooseveltd! Hoover was a good man, at a bad time.) |

On 9-11, ny husband and I were on the Cat ferry from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth. Halfway over, the reports came in on the overhead tv's. They told us on arrival that we had to leave immediately to return, because the ports were closing and they couldn't guarantee we would be allowed back into the States. We didn't know until halfway back, then we told we could re-enter. It was a very scary time, not knowing if or when we could get back into our home land. I would not want to be anywhere but here. This country would not exist if people hadn't left OTHER countries to excape oppression and lack of opportunity. There's no where to go if America becomes a place we want to escape from. |
