I like the tax breaks for hireing new workers. People are overworked, doing 2-3 peoples jobs & not getting any more pay. I say hire new people, if co's wont pay more than take some responsibilities away by adding to the staff. Its actually the most republican thing Obama proposed.

So you'd like to get a 3K credit by spending 17K (not including benefits, workman's comp, insurance, etc)?

My opinion is that when layoffs came around big time, people who were not working/producing as much as they should have figured they better start doing so to keep their job. Now production per employee has risen.

No, when the economy sank & bosses needed to protects their profits and incomes to continue to live their lavish lifestyles they fired people then pushed the work onto the rest of the staff, and so on and so on until you get 2 people doing 10 peoples work. also, as a result, the quality of the work diminishes and thus crap is produced, then no one buys it because its no longer a competitive product, thus less revenue, thus more cuts, and more work pushed onto fewer employees. Capitalizing on the remaining few who are left. Capitalism is a BULLY and its time to push back!

I'm not talking about my job scubastrucking, I drive a tractor trailer and trucking is kind of slow right now, but I see this at A LOT of my friends jobs who I see working from 6am-10pm, and they dont have the luxury of a log book and its 14 hr max workday rule, its get the job done....or else

Taxes just went up here in Oregon, thanks to the liberal and dumbass voters! No hiring tax break is currently going to pay for the increase in taxes that our family business has to pay. And we are just a small convenient store.

One has nothing to do with the other itchy. Raise your prices to compensate for the tax increase and hire an overnite guy or 2 to get the hiring tax credit.

JD1222 "bosses needed to protects their profits" Obviously there will be that too, I just don’t hear that from my friends. They mostly talk about making themselves seem more productive/valuable to the company than the next guy by getting more work done (better and faster) so it’s the other guy that gets cut not them.

I'm 49 and have been employed all my life until the last 4 years. If you don't have what it takes to attempt to build your own business at least once before you start assuming lavish lifestyles and profits, then you can't have an entire picture of the dynamics "actually" involved. In many operations, it takes more money in a week than a well paid employee can earn in one quarter to keep the doors open to provide that one well paying job. Thats where most inconsiderate un-knowing employees get confused. they in their minds add all the income they can see for a business, and think, "wow, sucks to be me" but never have a clue that the "boss" is sweating the next quarterly taxes, insurance, unemployment insurance, rent, material, stock, utilities, etc and dealing with short sighted disgruntle employees to boot.... If you never owned a business, you couldn't think as you do. If you have and failed, ask you self why and reconsider what you are saying...

One of the problems with so much of government, state and federal, is that there are way too many people who have been at politics and/or the law their entire adult lives, and don't have a real feel for the life of the small businessman. If they did there would be no minimum wage law, nor some of the other restrictions that make running a successful small business very difficult. There are indeed corporate buccaneers who trash anything everything for the money and power they can get, but they aren't the bedrock of American business.

Yeah FGeiger, I dont have a clue that 10 employees get cut, the work is thrown on 2 people & bosses who you say sweat all the responsibilities then go buy a cadillac escalade and go on vacation to the bahamas, you are right about 1 thing....THEY PROTECT THEIRS, you assume all parties are competeing in some lab office in perfect 8hr days & 40 hr weeks. Its BULLYING when they CUT jobs and make 2 people work twice as long for the same pay....WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the clarification which assumed! :) I've been there, one of the unlucky to be axed because of economic or sales slumps. I have also been the lucky one to take the load of several in these times as well and saw it as a blessing to have the overtime working 60-70 hours a week when unemployment was high, and not seen as a curse. I've seen a great deal of these ideals and attitude working shoulder to shoulder as a laborer for for 34+/- years from other co-workers. it is a common fallacy for the tables to be turned in these minds. being that an employee could make the assumption that an employer owes him anything at all in addition to the opportunity to be employed for one more day. I had a very liberal up bringing and even so, I have never assumed the world owed me because I breath. This is the reality. I am wide awake therefore realistically considerate.

you need windex for your view of reality. now you are assuming we are getting overtime for all these hours! I'd be a fool to wake up everday with an attitude of just getting by and being grateful for the crumbs that others leave me. I could understand you feeling this way if workers were treated fairly, equally, and compensated for overtime, but most are not. Most are being driven by employers to PROVIDE income to the employer for which the employer does NOTHING to contribute and in fact usually makes the task of PROVIDING even harder than it needs to be. All in the name of keeping your job. Either you are severly mentally scarred from childhood & in dire need of mental therapy or you are just plain stupid. I'd bet the first. Do not confuse an attitude of acievement with an attitude of entitelment.

Windex....LMAO. your a real comedian!!!! You are one of the truly lost. I couldn't help you even if you wanted my opinion. But here's my my suggestion anyhow. We create our own destinies, I know this for fact. you can't possibly be the product of your environment if you have determination to draw an intelligent plan and create your own reality's. If you need someone to PROVIDE for you, you should have stayed home with mom & dad until you were ready to take of the training wheels.

I got the windex thing from watching Joel Osteen on sun am on fox. he said sometimes you need to clean your window to get a clearer picture of what your looking at. Tell me oh great wise one what part of working 16 hrs a day for someone is controlling my own destiny, or giving me room to achieve my own plans, and the person next to me and the person next to her. Its people like YOU who thinks mail magically appears in your mailbox or food magically appears at the supermarkets and if asked where does pizza come from you'd say pizza hut. YOU PEOPLE dont think about the hard work it takes to print a newspaper or magazine, pick up trash or anything other than what you do all day. Heres a formula for you. A gallon of milk cost $2.89 of which the milk and carton must be purchased, produced, packaged shipped, delivered, and returns picked up. out of all that I'd venture to say the cost is $2.69 a gallon which leaves .10 a gallon profit. not much huh? now see the employees actually getting overtime pay, regular hrs, same benefits as corporate executives who waste them since theyre not exposing themselves to harmful work conditions on a daily basis and I'd say the company is actually making more $$$ screwing the employees out of $$$ than they make on the product they produce!!!

here's a great idea jersey devil... since you know a better way to run a business than perhaps you should start your own business and compete against these cadilac driving gazzilionaires that are taking advantage of the workers. you can hire your 10 employees instead of 2 like the other guy, you will produce a better product than your gazzilionaire competitor... at a lower price and higher profit margin. go for it and let me know how it works.
